Brief Biographical Summary:
George Lanakilakekiahiali`i Nä`ope was born in Kalihi on the island of O`ahu and raised in Hilo on the island of Hawai`i. He began his hula training at the age of four with Mary Kekuewa, also known as Mama Fujii. He began studying with Kumu Joseph `Ïlälä`ole when he was 10 years old and continued with him for 10 years. He was also trained by masters Anna Hall and Jennie Wilson. Uncle George is known and loved throughout the world for his dedication to hula kahiko and perpetuating the "old school" ways of the hula world.
